From the neighborhood view, the player selects one lot to play, as in Sims. There are both residential & community lots, but Sims can only live in the residential lots. Sims can travel to Community lots in the order to purchase things like clothing & magazines & to interact with NPCs and townies. The player can choose between playing a pre-made inhabited lot, moving a household into an unoccupied pre-built lot, or constructing a building on an empty lot. One novelty from Sims is foundations.
This game contains a few time-bound social challenges which provide a reward if it is successful. The Sims can throw parties to win aspiration points and invite the headmaster for the dinner to enroll their own children in the private school. Few expansion packs have some new mini-games like running a Greek house in the University and dating in the Nightlife. In Nightlife, every date is challenging to keep all Sims as much happiness as possible when accumulating the aspiration points.
